Do you sometimes sketch the things you see as you travel? Do you find yourself doodling as you sip Vino Verde in Cintra? Water coloring? Photographing? Cartooning? Whether you’re amateur or professional; in New York City or Ulaanbaatar, we’re interested in showing others your travel experience, through your eyes. Show us how moved you were through works of ink or paint, pastels or whatever medium you choose.  Scan and send us up to five of your travel-inspired artwork. Make sure your artwork is not too large so that we can fit it on our webpage without having to scroll up and down.

e-Marginalia showcases the most captivating, transporting, enchanting art we can lay our hands on. We love reviewing your submissions and evaluating which will most appeal to e-Marginalia readers. Nine finalists are selected for publication and featured online for one month during which website visitors around the world help to choose the most popular artwork. And then we announce (and reward) the winners!

What are we looking for?

The work we publish targets the adventurous traveler. We serve people who seek "authentic" travel experiences, voyagers rather than tourists. Our clients and site visitors marry discerning tastes and sincere curiosity with a willingness (indeed a need) to venture beyond the confines of the familiar and the comfortable. Travel beyond the margin.

Your submissions should be original, high quality images that effortlessly and immediately transport viewers away from the quotidian and into the magical folds of some far-off wonderland. Dramatic is good. Funny is welcome. Beautiful is sublime. It's good to shoot high!

Submission Deadlines

Please review the 2006 submission deadlines. You are invited to submit your work at any time; if it is not timely for one issue, it will be considered for the next.

Fees

Submission fees help to offset the expense of running the contest and enable us to offer higher payouts than our free contests. You may submit one artwork for US$ 3.00, two artworks for US$ 4.00 or five artworks for US$ 5.00.

Once you've submitted your artwork we will contact you to confirm receipt and bill you for the appropriate reading fee. You will be able to pay by check (US and Canadian banks only) or credit card, echeck or money transfer (secure transaction via PayPal).

Rewards

e-Margaux.com is a boutique travel community celebrating and inspiring alternative travel and travelers. We follow a "contest model" which allows us to encourage excellent travel photography while rewarding our most popular storytellers. The photos selected for publication each quarter are featured (on e-Marginalia.com and in our monthly email newsletter) and tracked for two months before being archived. Tracking the popularity of each story permits us to reward the writers of the top three most popular images according to the schedule below.

First Place - $150.00 maximum ($.05/visit; $75.00 minimum)
Second Place - $100.00 maximum ($.05/visit; $50.00 minimum)
Third Place - $50.00 maximum ($.05/visit; $25.00 minimum)

Please note that archived images will remain accessible to site visitors, but tracking will be discontinued upon publication of the subsequent issue.

Rights, Requests & Requirements

When we publish your work at e-Margaux.com we prefer (but do not require) 30-day exclusive rights after publication, and nonexclusive electronic rights thereafter. All submissions must be in English, and it is preferable that they be previously unpublished and not simultaneously submitted elsewhere. To increase your chances for publication, please follow the submission guidelines below.

Guidelines & Considerations

  • Send us your best work.
  • No submission should be "borrowed" from another source.
  • Include full contact information and submission destination/itinerary.
