Did you stumble upon the most valuable travel information
during your recent trip? Have you been waiting to share the perfect
"insider's tip" with other travelers? Do you have the dirt on
a reliable place to rent a scooter in Thailand? Or a trustworthy
trek organizer in Romania? We’re ready to hear it and so are our
readers. Send us your best tips, and be sure to include specific
and verifiable information, especially links that we can pass
along to e-Marginalia readers.
e-Marginalia showcases the most helpful, relevant and
interesting travel tips we can lay our hands on. We love reading
your submissions and evaluating which work will most appeal to
e-Marginalia readers. Nine finalists are selected for publication
and featured online for one month during which readers around the
world help to choose the most popular travel tips. And then we
announce (and reward) the winners!
What are we looking
for?
Five hundred (500) impeccably chosen words. Short, sweet
and to the point. A precise, user friendly travel tip on
one of the categories listed below.
That's it. Nothing more; nothing less. But make sure those words
can really sing!
The stories and articles we publish target the adventurous traveler. We serve
people who seek "authentic" travel experiences, voyagers rather
than tourists. Our clients and site visitors marry discerning tastes
and sincere curiosity with a willingness (indeed a need) to venture
beyond the confines of the familiar and the comfortable. Travel
beyond the margin.
Good, honest, well-crafted prose combined with accurate, well-photographed
images are the e-Margaux.com staple.
Frankly, our site visitors expect to be transported effortlessly
and immediately away from the quotidian and into the magical folds
of a unique adventure. The work we select for publication will meet these important criteria.
Travel Tip
Categories
No doubt you could come up with dozens of great categories for
writing travel tips, and in time we'll add additional choices. For
the first contest, please choose from the following categories:
Humanitarian Travel (i.e. Volunteerism)
Destination Guide (Skip general; go specific.)
Accommodation (Especially unusual or hard-to-find lodging.)
Dining (Seek the unconventional.)
Activity (i.e. Hang gliding or harvesting wine grapes.)
Transportation (Leapfrog the mundane!)
Travel
Resources (i.e. Travel insurance)
Style
With respect to style, we endeavor to cultivate a more flexible
and experimental style of travel writing than the mainstream travel
media, but stories and articles selected for publication are essentially prose
reports, balancing journalistic conventions with the style and readability
of creative non-fiction, and ranging from travelogues and destination
reviews to exposés and "tips & advice" testimonials.
Submission
Deadline
Please review the
2006 submission deadlines. You are invited to
submit your work online at any time
prior to this date.
Fees
Reading fees help to offset the expense of running the contest
and enable us to offer higher payouts than our
free contests. You may submit one entry for US$ 3.00, two
entries for US$ 4.00 or five entries for US$ 5.00.
Once you've submitted your travel tip(s) we will contact you to
confirm receipt and bill you for the appropriate reading fee. You
will be able to pay by check (US and Canadian banks only) or
credit card, echeck or money transfer (secure transaction via
PayPal).
Rewards
e-Margaux.com is a boutique travel
community celebrating and inspiring alternative travel and travelers.
We follow a "contest model" which allows us to encourage excellent
storytelling while rewarding our most popular storytellers. The stories
selected for publication each quarter are featured (on
e-Marginalia.com and in our monthly
email newsletter) and tracked for two months before being archived.
Tracking the popularity of each story permits us to
reward the writers of the top three most popuar
stories according to the schedule below.
First Place - $150.00 maximum ($.05/visit;
$75.00 minimum)
Second Place - $100.00 maximum ($.05/visit; $50.00 minimum)
Third Place - $50.00 maximum ($.05/visit; $25.00 minimum)
Please note that archived travel tips will remain accessible to site
visitors, but tracking will be discontinued upon publication of the
subsequent issue.
