Nana: Could you please share some of your frustrations as a photographer
with us? Perhaps some examples of what you have struggled with or still
struggle with as a photographer and what you’ve done to overcome these frustrations.
Hans: I’ve got the greatest job I ever wanted (save making that Fellini-esque
movie), so any frustration pales in comparison to completing a beautiful
book. If I do have to say something it's just that I want to take more photos.
I’m not nearly spending enough time making photos, that’s the hard part.
Nana: Aside from photography, could you please tell us what some of your
other passions are?
Hans: I’ll have to keep some secrets for those who want to know me better.
Nana: Could you please tell us how you are able to keep a balance between
your personal life and your work?
Hans: I can’t keep a balance. I don’t want a balance. I’d like to look
for a balance though. I like the process of looking for a balance but hope
not to find it. That would be boring.
Nana: And, finally, please tell us what message you hope to convey with
your photography.
Hans: I don’t consider myself a messenger. As long as I touch something,
stir something in the viewer: sadness, beauty, cruelty, love, hate. We are
all capable of everything.
